Star sprinter Animesh Kujur has made headlines by breaking the national 100m record with an impressive time of 10.18 seconds at the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting in Greece. This remarkable achievement took place on Saturday in Vari, a suburb of Athens, during the World Athletics Continental Tour silver label meet. Kujur’s performance surpassed the previous national record of 10.20 seconds set by Gurindervir Singh. In this competitive event, Sotirios Garagganis of Greece finished second with a time of 10.23 seconds, while Samuli Samuelsson secured third place with 10.28 seconds.
Animesh Kujur’s success in Greece adds to his growing list of accomplishments. Earlier this year, he set a new national record in the men’s 200m event by clocking 20.32 seconds at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea, breaking his own previous record of 20.40 seconds from the Federation Cup. With both the 100m and 200m national records now under his belt, Kujur has firmly established himself as India’s fastest man.
In another significant development, Asian Games silver medallist Mohammed Afsal broke his own national record in the men’s 800m race at the Memoriał Czesława Cybulskiego in Poznan, Poland. Afsal became the first Indian to run below the 1:45 minute mark, finishing with a time of 1:44.96 minutes and securing sixth place in Heat A/1. This achievement follows his previous record-breaking performance in May, where he clocked 1:45.61 seconds at the UAE Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.
The top three positions in Poznan were claimed by Polish athletes, with Maciej Wyderka winning the race with a personal best and meet record time of 1:44.23 seconds. Filip Ostrowski and Patryk Sieradzki followed closely, both achieving personal bests with times of 1:44.25 seconds and 1:44.56 seconds, respectively.
