A tragic mass shooting unfolded in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of Philadelphia early Monday morning, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to at least ten others. The violent incident, captured on a Ring surveillance camera, is currently under investigation by local authorities. The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on the 1500 block of South Etting Street, where a large street gathering turned deadly as multiple individuals drew weapons and opened fire.
The surveillance footage, which has rapidly spread online, depicts a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted amidst the crowd. According to police reports, the victims range in age from 15 to 24 years old. In addition to those shot, one person sustained injuries while attempting to flee the scene but was not hit by gunfire as initially believed.
Authorities had been monitoring the area over the weekend due to reports of loud music and gatherings. Police officers were responding to a nearby call when they heard gunshots and immediately rushed to the location. The three deceased victims have been identified as Zahir Wylie, 23, Jason Reese, 19, and Azir Harris, 24.
Among the injured are a 15-year-old girl and two 17-year-old boys. A 19-year-old man remains in critical condition, while others aged between 18 and 24 are expected to recover from their injuries. Philadelphia Police have released images of several suspects captured in the surveillance footage and are urging the public to provide any information that could assist in their apprehension.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel expressed his dismay at the indiscriminate nature of the shooting, noting that children were present during the incident. “This is coward stuff,” Bethel stated. “Individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars—it’s hard to understand why people engage in this kind of behavior.”
