Sabih Khan Appointed as Apple’s New Chief Operating Officer

Sabih Khan, an Indian American technology expert, has been named the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Apple Inc. Khan, who has been with the tech giant for three decades, will take over from Jeff Williams as COO later this month. Currently serving as the Vice-President, Khan’s appointment marks a significant milestone in his career at Apple. Apple CEO Tim Cook has lauded Khan as a “brilliant strategist” and a key figure in the development of Apple’s supply chain. Cook emphasized Khan’s leadership qualities, noting that he leads with heart and values, which will make him an exceptional COO. Khan’s efforts have been instrumental in ensuring Apple’s agility in responding to global challenges. Jeff Williams, the outgoing COO, will remain with Apple until his retirement later this year. He will continue to oversee the design team and the Apple Watch division during this transition period. Sabih Khan’s journey began in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where he was born in 1966. At the age of 10, he moved to Singapore and later attended Tufts University, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and mechanical engineering. He furthered his education with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Khan’s professional career started at GE Plastics, now known as SABIC, where he worked as an application development and key account technical leader. In 1995, he joined Apple and has since played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s global supply chain. In 2019, he was promoted to senior vice president of operations, where he focused on forming alliances with suppliers committed to green manufacturing and planet conservation. In his role at Apple, Khan has managed planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and product fulfillment operations. He has also been responsible for product quality and has led Apple’s supplier responsibility initiatives to protect and educate employees at manufacturing sites worldwide. Tim Cook has previously praised Khan for his efforts in reducing Apple’s carbon footprint by over 60 percent. Khan introduced innovative technologies and methods to enhance Apple’s manufacturing processes and expand operations within the United States.
