Former CIA Director John Brennan expressed confusion over reports of an FBI investigation into his actions during the Trump-Russia collusion probe. Speaking on MSNBC, Brennan stated he was “clueless” about the reasons behind the investigation, which was reported by Fox News Digital. The report suggested that current CIA Director John Ratcliffe had referred evidence of alleged wrongdoing by Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel for potential prosecution. This referral is linked to Brennan’s involvement in the 2017 Russia collusion investigation.
Brennan, who has testified before several congressional committees about his role in the investigation, defended his actions and those of his team. He emphasized the professionalism and integrity of the intelligence community and the CIA during the investigation process. Despite the allegations, Brennan noted that he had not been contacted by the Department of Justice regarding any investigation, leaving him uncertain about its validity.
The situation follows Ratcliffe’s recent declassification of a review concerning the creation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA). The ICA claimed that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. However, the review highlighted procedural issues and deviations from intelligence standards during its creation. It also criticized the inclusion of the Steele dossier, a document now considered discredited, which was pushed for inclusion by Brennan despite his later testimony to Congress that it should not have been part of the ICA.
This development adds another layer to ongoing investigations into former FBI Director James Comey and others involved in the Russia probe. As these investigations unfold, they continue to spark debate over intelligence practices and political influences within high-profile government inquiries.
