Lulu Simon, daughter of renowned musician Paul Simon, has publicly criticized actor Richard Gere for allegedly breaking a promise regarding her childhood home. According to Lulu, Gere purchased the New Canaan, Connecticut property from her parents, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, in 2022 for $10.8 million. She claims that Gere assured them he would preserve the land but instead sold it to developers who plan to demolish the house and construct nine new properties. Lulu expressed her frustration on Instagram, stating, “Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!” She accused Gere of never moving into the home and selling it as nine separate plots. Her emotional post included a screenshot of an article detailing Gere’s real estate activities. Lulu further vented her anger by wishing that her deceased pets, buried in the backyard, would haunt Gere. The property was reportedly sold by Richard Gere and his wife Alejandra Silva in October 2024 for $10.75 million. The news of its impending demolition emerged after the couple relocated to Spain. Alejandra, originally from Spain, wanted to be closer to her family. Gere expressed excitement about the move, describing it as an adventure and highlighting Spain’s vibrant culture and lifestyle. Despite their relocation, Alejandra has indicated a desire to return to the United States eventually. At a 2025 gala in New York City, she mentioned plans to balance their lives between Spain and the U.S., especially during summers when their children attend camp. Representatives for both Lulu Simon and Richard Gere have not responded to requests for comment on this matter. The situation highlights the emotional complexities involved in real estate transactions, particularly when personal promises are perceived as broken.
