A recent study has identified the best airports in the United States, highlighting unique features and amenities that enhance the travel experience. The analysis, conducted by The Washington Post, surveyed over 2,300 people and examined more than 450,000 Yelp reviews to determine which airports stand out. The study considered factors such as gate capacity, parking, and overall design across more than 450 public airports, ultimately narrowing the list to the top 50.
Seattle’s Paine Field (PAE) emerged as a standout with its luxurious feel, offering amenities like bellhops for luggage, limestone-accented walls, and leather seating. Travelers can enjoy a wine bar and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese while taking in views of the Olympic Mountains. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) also received praise for its ease of navigation and unique offerings like massage chairs and a quiet space for relaxation. The airport pays homage to local culture with music celebrating Minneapolis-native Prince.
Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) ranked high due to its proximity to the capital’s landmarks, providing travelers with stunning views of the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Long Beach Airport in California was noted for its Art Deco architecture and outdoor dining options, creating an “oasis” atmosphere just miles from the beach.
Portland International Airport (PDX) claimed the top spot in the survey. Known for its live trees, sky-lit ceilings, and natural landscapes displayed on video walls, PDX offers a unique travel experience. Features like a giant pink mailbox, therapy llamas, and ’80s-inspired carpeting add to its charm. The airport also hosts live music and a speakeasy, making it a place where travelers enjoy spending time before their flights.
