Texas ICE Ambush Suspect Linked to Anti-Government Documents, Authorities Report

Suspect Charged with Evidence Tampering in ICE Ambush Case

A man has been charged with tampering with evidence related to an attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Texas. Daniel Rolando Sanchez Estrada, identified as a green card holder from Mexico and a former DACA recipient, was implicated following a phone call from one of the alleged attackers. The incident involved a group of 10 to 12 individuals who reportedly vandalized vehicles and launched fireworks at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. During the attack, between 20 and 30 rounds were fired at law enforcement officers outside the facility.

Discovery of Insurrectionist Materials

Upon arrest, authorities discovered documents titled “Organizing for Attack! Insurrectionary Anarchy,” which ICE described as insurrectionist propaganda. According to West Point, insurrectionary anarchism is considered a significant domestic terrorist threat. Sanchez, who gained legal status through the DACA program and later received a green card under the Biden administration, is accused of attempting to conceal these materials.

Connections Uncovered Through Jailhouse Calls

Marciela Rueda, one of the alleged attackers, was apprehended wearing military-style clothing and body armor while trying to escape the scene. She made two phone calls from jail, instructing her mother and Sanchez to remove her vehicle from a Dallas address used as a staging area before the attack. The vehicle was registered to her Fort Worth residence.

Sanchez’s Movements Under Surveillance

FBI surveillance observed Sanchez transporting packages from his Dallas residence to an apartment in Denton. A search warrant revealed that these packages contained documents advocating civil unrest with anti-law enforcement and anti-government sentiments. Sanchez was arrested during a traffic stop and charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence.

Federal Charges Against Alleged Attackers

Federal prosecutors have charged Rueda and nine others with attempted murder of a federal officer. All ten individuals are U.S. citizens. A twelfth suspect, Benjamin Hanil Song, remains at large, with a $25,000 reward offered for information leading to his capture. Song is accused of purchasing firearms used in the attack.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation continues as authorities seek additional suspects involved in the ambush. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about domestic terrorism and the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing such threats.
