In a shocking incident in Gurugram, Deepak Yadav, 49, fatally shot his daughter, Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old former state-level tennis player. The tragic event unfolded in their home on Thursday, as Radhika was preparing a meal in the kitchen. Deepak fired five shots, three of which struck his daughter from behind, leading to her untimely death.
The police investigation revealed that Deepak Yadav was deeply troubled by societal taunts regarding his dependence on his daughter’s earnings. Radhika had recently opened a tennis academy to coach children after a shoulder injury hindered her professional tennis career. Despite her father’s insistence to close the academy due to increasing ridicule from villagers, Radhika refused to comply. This refusal, coupled with derogatory remarks about her character, reportedly pushed Deepak to commit the heinous act.
Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak’s brother and Radhika’s uncle, filed the First Information Report (FIR) with the police. He recounted hearing a loud noise at 10:30 am and discovering Radhika’s lifeless body in the kitchen. Kuldeep and his son Piyush rushed her to Asia Moringo Hospital in Gurugram, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Deepak’s wife, Manju Yadav, declined to provide a written statement to the authorities, citing illness. The family is left grappling with shock and disbelief over the loss of Radhika, who was celebrated for her achievements on the tennis court.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the devastating impact of societal pressures and familial disputes. Radhika Yadav was not only a promising athlete but also a beloved figure in her community. Her tragic death underscores the urgent need for addressing mental health issues and societal norms that contribute to such extreme actions.
