Texas Senator Angela Paxton Files for Divorce from Attorney General Ken Paxton

Texas State Senator Angela Paxton has announced her decision to file for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton, citing “biblical grounds” as the reason. In a statement shared on social media, Angela Paxton expressed her belief in marriage as a sacred covenant and her efforts towards reconciliation. However, she stated that recent discoveries have led her to conclude that remaining in the marriage would not honor God or be loving to herself, her children, or Ken.

Ken Paxton, who has served as Texas Attorney General since 2014 and has been re-elected twice, is currently engaged in a challenging Senate primary race against longtime Republican Senator John Cornyn. The upcoming GOP primary is anticipated to be contentious. Despite his political career, Ken Paxton has faced significant challenges, including an impeachment by the Texas House of Representatives on corruption allegations, which involved claims of an extramarital affair. He was later acquitted by the state Senate.

In response to the divorce filing, Ken Paxton released a statement acknowledging the pressures of political attacks and public scrutiny that have affected their marriage. He expressed pride and gratitude for his family and requested privacy during this time. The divorce announcement comes amid a politically charged atmosphere, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) supporting Cornyn in the primary race.

The NRSC’s communications director, Joanna Rodriguez, commented on the situation, expressing support for Angela Paxton and criticizing Ken Paxton’s actions. Angela Paxton represents a state Senate district in northern Texas, an area previously held by her husband before his statewide election. As the political landscape in Texas continues to evolve, this personal development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing Senate race.
