Pakistani actress Humaira Asghar Ali was discovered dead in her Karachi apartment, nearly nine months after her passing. Her body, found in a “highly decomposed state,” was only discovered when her landlord filed a complaint due to unpaid rent. This shocking revelation has left investigators and locals puzzled as to how her death went unnoticed for such an extended period.
The apartment where Humaira lived had no other occupants on the same floor, and one of the balcony doors was reportedly left open. By the time neighbors returned to the building in February, any odor from decomposition had dissipated. The condition of the apartment, with dried-up water pipes, rusted jars, and expired food dating back at least six months, indicated a prolonged period of isolation.
Officials noted that there were no candles or alternative power sources in the house, and her electricity had been disconnected in October 2024 due to non-payment. This timeline suggests that Humaira likely died between paying her last utility bills and the disconnection of electricity. The post-mortem report by Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed the body was in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” initially suggesting she had been dead for at least a month. However, further investigations based on call records indicated she most likely died in October 2024.
Initially, Humaira’s family refused to claim her body. However, her brother Naveed Asghar later arrived in Karachi to take custody of her remains. Due to the severe decomposition, a DNA test was conducted for verification. Naveed explained that Humaira had grown distant from the family after moving from Lahore to Karachi seven years ago, visiting them infrequently.
Humaira began her career in the entertainment industry in 2015, appearing in supporting roles on television shows like Just Married and Ehsaan Faramosh. She also acted in films such as Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021). In 2022, she gained further recognition by participating in the reality show Tamasha Ghar on ARY Digital and received an award for Best Emerging Talent & Rising Star at the National Woman Leadership Awards in 2023.
