The widow of Corey Comperatore, a victim of the tragic shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, received a personal call from President Donald Trump. After watching her emotional interview on Fox News, Trump assured Helen Comperatore that he would always support her. The call came as the one-year anniversary of the shooting approached, bringing renewed attention to the incident.
In addition to Trump’s call, Secret Service Director Sean Curran also reached out to Helen Comperatore. Curran expressed his sorrow after viewing her interview and committed to meeting with her to discuss the case. He acknowledged the agency’s failures during the incident, where 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks fired eight rounds from a rooftop, resulting in Corey Comperatore’s death and injuries to three others, including Trump.
Helen Comperatore has been vocal about her frustration with the Secret Service’s handling of the situation. She described the attendees as “sitting ducks” and demanded accountability for what she sees as significant oversights by the agency. Her call for answers is fueled by a desire to understand why security measures failed that day.
The Secret Service has admitted to multiple failures in their security protocols during the Butler rally. In response, six agents have been suspended without pay or benefits. Curran has pledged to address Helen Comperatore’s questions about the July 13, 2024 shooting and promised that under his leadership, there will be improvements in communication and accountability.
After a year of silence, Helen Comperatore finally feels heard by the Secret Service. During her conversation with Curran, he apologized for the lack of updates and assured her that changes are underway. Meanwhile, Trump mentioned that a comprehensive report on the assassination attempt is forthcoming, though its release date remains uncertain.
