Pro-Khalistan separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, has issued a threat to actor-comedian Kapil Sharma. Pannun, designated as an “individual terrorist” by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019, accused Sharma of promoting Hindutva ideology under the guise of business activities in Canada. He warned Sharma to “take back his blood money to Hindustan,” asserting that Canada would not tolerate such ideologies on its soil.
The threat follows an attack on Sharma’s newly-opened restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, British Columbia. On Wednesday night, unknown assailants targeted the establishment, though no injuries were reported. Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, both linked to the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility for the attack. BKI is recognized as a terrorist organization by the Canadian government, and Laddi is listed on the National Investigation Agency’s most-wanted list.
In a video message, Pannun questioned whether Kap’s Cafe was merely a comedy venue or part of a broader strategy to spread Hindutva ideology in Canada. He emphasized that Canada is not a playground for such activities and demanded that Sharma cease his business operations in the country.
In response to the attack, Kap’s Cafe released an Instagram statement on Friday expressing their shock but reaffirming their stance against violence. As of now, Kapil Sharma has not publicly commented on the incident.
SFJ is banned under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act due to its anti-national activities aimed at disrupting India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The group maintains close ties with militant outfits and actively supports secessionist activities. The National Investigation Agency is investigating multiple cases against Pannun, who faces 104 charges related to these activities.
