In the 1st Youth Test between India U19 and England U19, held in Kent, the Indian team showcased a commanding performance on the opening day. Captain Ayush Mhatre, who had been struggling with his form in white-ball cricket, made a remarkable comeback by scoring a century. His innings of 102 runs off 115 balls included 14 boundaries and two sixes, setting a solid foundation for the team.
Ayush Mhatre’s impressive knock was complemented by a significant partnership with Vihaan Malhotra. Together, they added 173 runs for the second wicket, with Malhotra contributing a valuable 67 runs. This partnership was instrumental in stabilizing the innings after an early setback when teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for just 14 runs.
Following the strong start by Mhatre and Malhotra, the middle order continued to build on the momentum. Abhigyan Kundu played an aggressive innings, scoring 90 runs off 95 balls, while Rahul Kumar added a quick-fire 85 off 81 balls. Both batsmen displayed positive intent and came close to reaching their centuries, further propelling India U19 towards a formidable total.
By the end of the day’s play, India U19 had amassed an impressive total of 450 for seven. The team’s batting depth and resilience were evident as they put England U19 on the back foot.
