In a shocking incident in Patna, Bihar, a lawyer named Jitendra Kumar was fatally shot in broad daylight, just 300 meters from a police station. This brazen attack marks the third high-profile murder in the state within a week, raising serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement effectiveness. The incident occurred as Kumar was having tea at a roadside stall, a routine he followed regularly.
According to police reports, Jitendra Kumar was shot at close range by unidentified assailants who fled the scene immediately after firing at least three bullets. The exact number of attackers remains unknown. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Patna (City) Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar confirmed these details to reporters.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators. A forensic team has also collected evidence from the crime scene to aid in the investigation. The swift escape of the attackers has intensified scrutiny on local law enforcement and their ability to maintain order.
This murder follows two other high-profile killings earlier in the week. Prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was the first victim, an event that sent shockwaves through the state and provided political fodder for opposition parties. Subsequently, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, who was also a veterinarian and farmer, was shot dead, suffering four bullet wounds before dying at AIIMS Patna.
The recent spate of violence has sparked political controversy, with Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticizing the Nitish Kumar government for what he termed as “jungle raj.” As Bihar approaches assembly elections, these incidents have become central to debates over governance and public safety.
