In a shocking development, Bhopal Police have detained Abdul Kalam, a Bangladeshi national who lived in India for over a decade under the false identity of “Neha,” a transgender woman. This revelation has raised concerns about a potential organized racket involving illegal immigration and identity fraud. Kalam, who entered India at age 10, spent two decades in Mumbai before moving to Bhopal’s Budhwara area. He integrated into the local hijra community, acquiring essential documents like an Aadhaar card, ration card, and passport through forged means with the assistance of local agents.
Police investigations revealed that Abdul Kalam not only lived under a fake identity but also traveled abroad using a forged Indian passport. Known locally as “Neha,” he frequently changed residences within Budhwara. Authorities are conducting medical tests to verify his gender, determining whether his transgender identity was genuine or a cover to avoid detection.
Sources indicate Kalam’s involvement in transgender activities in Maharashtra, prompting questions about his disguise being part of a larger network. Authorities are investigating whether other members of the transgender community were complicit or unknowingly aided in the fraud. Two local youths who allegedly helped Abdul obtain fake documents are currently under interrogation. Investigators suspect this case might be part of a broader network facilitating illegal immigration and document forgery.
Abdul Kalam has been detained for 30 days under the Foreigners Act. Additional DCP Shalini Dixit stated that they received a tip-off leading to his identification. Kalam had also traveled to Bangladesh during his time in India, and authorities are awaiting further reports from relevant departments. The process for his deportation has begun, but not before thoroughly investigating the extent of the racket and his past activities both in India and abroad.
This case has sent shockwaves through law enforcement agencies due to its implications for national security. Questions have arisen about how a foreign national managed to live undetected for years using forged documents in a major Indian city. Bhopal Police, along with central agencies, are now working diligently to uncover the full extent of this fraud and determine whether it is an isolated incident or part of a more extensive network.
