India’s cricket team has encountered another hurdle in their ongoing England tour as all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is set to miss the remainder of the matches. Sources have confirmed that Reddy suffered a knee injury during a gym session, with subsequent scans revealing a ligament tear. This development adds to India’s growing list of injury concerns, with pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep also doubtful for the upcoming Manchester Test at Old Trafford.
Reddy, who missed the opening match in Leeds, participated in two Tests. His performance was underwhelming, scoring just one run in both innings of the second Test at Edgbaston and failing to take any wickets. In the third Test at Lord’s, he managed to score 43 runs across both innings and claimed three wickets. Unfortunately, his injury has now sidelined him from further participation.
The Indian squad is grappling with multiple injuries as they prepare for the Manchester Test starting July 23. Alongside Reddy’s confirmed absence, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep’s participation remains uncertain due to injuries sustained during training. The team is also managing the fitness of key players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Washington Sundar, who skipped net practice on Sunday.
In a lighter moment amidst these challenges, Team India visited Manchester United’s training facility. During this visit, vice-captain Rishabh Pant presented a signed bat to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. Additionally, Mohammed Siraj bowled to defender Harry Maguire. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy was notably absent from this interaction.
Anshul Kamboj has been called up as an injury replacement for Reddy and was seen with the team during their meeting with Manchester United players. Reflecting on the series so far, India suffered a narrow 22-run defeat at Lord’s despite dominating much of the game. Jasprit Bumrah emerged as a standout performer with seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
