During a United Nations Security Council debate, India’s Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish emphasized India’s achievements in security, social, and financial sectors. He highlighted India’s status as a mature democracy and a surging economy, contrasting it with Pakistan’s ongoing challenges. India is recognized for its pluralistic and inclusive society, actively engaging in global partnerships to promote peace and prosperity. As a founding member of the United Nations, India remains committed to fostering a just and equitable world through multilateralism.
Ambassador Harish criticized Pakistan for its reliance on international borrowing and its association with terrorism and fanaticism. He described Pakistan as a “serial borrower” from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), contrasting sharply with India’s economic growth. Harish underscored the importance of zero tolerance towards terrorism, urging the international community to recognize and respect this principle. He accused Pakistan of indulging in practices deemed unacceptable by global standards.
The ambassador recalled the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where Pakistani terrorists killed 26 civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). Harish described the military action as focused, measured, and non-escalatory. The operation led to heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, resulting in cross-border firings. Hostilities ceased on May 10 after India agreed to a ceasefire at Pakistan’s request. This clarification followed claims by US President Donald Trump regarding his role in brokering peace between the nations.
