A recent viral video has captured a surprising encounter between a group of stray dogs and a leopard. The incident occurred on July 3 at around 11:00 pm and was recorded by CCTV cameras. The footage, which has since gained widespread attention on social media, shows the unexpected reaction of the dogs when they realize their mistake.
In the brief 15-second clip, a leopard is seen sprinting across a road. Initially, nine stray dogs give chase, seemingly mistaking the leopard for a large domestic cat. As they close in on the animal, they quickly recognize it as a leopard and abruptly halt their pursuit. In a humorous twist, the dogs scatter in all directions, clearly frightened by their discovery.
The video was shared on the social media platform X with the caption, “They thought it’s just a cat.” The post quickly went viral, sparking laughter and amusement among viewers. One user commented on the dogs’ initial bravado, noting how they “ran away after going in like kings to maul it,” accompanied by laughing emojis. Another user remarked on the dogs’ overconfidence, stating that they acted like “bosses” until they realized their error.
This is not the first time leopards have been involved in incidents with dogs. Last year in Rajasthan, CCTV footage captured a leopard entering a garden and attacking a pet dog. The attack was thwarted when the dog’s owner intervened, causing the leopard to flee. Similarly, in Nashik, Maharashtra, two street dogs managed to chase away a leopard that attempted to attack them outside a house. These encounters highlight the frequent interactions between wildlife and domestic animals in certain regions.
These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges of wildlife encroachment into urban areas. As human settlements expand into natural habitats, encounters between wild animals and domestic pets are becoming more common. Forest officials often attribute such occurrences to leopards venturing from nearby fields or forests in search of food.
