Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of England Tests Due to Injury; Ishan Kishan Likely Replacement

Rishabh Pant’s Injury Sidelines Him from England Series

India’s wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the remaining Test matches against England after sustaining a foot injury on Day 1 of the 4th Test in Manchester. The injury occurred while Pant attempted a reverse sweep against England pacer Chris Woakes, leading to him being carried off the field in a golf cart. Medical assessments have confirmed a fracture, necessitating a six-week recovery period. This development means Pant will miss both the ongoing 4th Test and the final match of the series.

Ishan Kishan Poised to Step In

With Pant’s absence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering Ishan Kishan as his replacement for the upcoming 5th Test at Kennington Oval. A BCCI source revealed to PTI that Kishan is likely to be called in as cover. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel will take over wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the Manchester Test, although he will not be able to bat, leaving India one batter short.

Team India’s Injury Woes

The Indian team is grappling with multiple injuries, as players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh are also sidelined. This has disrupted the team’s balance and strategy for the series. The absence of key players poses a significant challenge as India aims to maintain its competitive edge against England.

Expert Opinions on Pant’s Injury

Ricky Ponting, who has previously coached Pant at Delhi Capitals in the IPL, expressed concern over the severity of Pant’s injury. Ponting noted that Pant’s inability to bear weight on his foot suggested a serious issue, drawing parallels with his own past metatarsal injury. Similarly, former England captain Michael Atherton speculated that Pant’s absence could significantly impact India’s performance in the series.
