Rishabh Pant Bats Despite Injury, Viral Moment with Shardul Thakur

Rishabh Pant’s Determined Return to Bat

Indian cricket team wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant showcased remarkable resilience by returning to bat on Day 2 of the fourth Test against England, despite suffering a significant injury. On Day 1, Pant retired hurt after being struck on his right foot by a delivery from England’s Chris Woakes while attempting a reverse sweep. The injury left him in visible pain, with swelling and bleeding evident. Despite these challenges, Pant donned a protective moon boot to support his injured foot when he arrived at the ground on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his availability to bat, leading to cheers from the crowd as he walked out following Shardul Thakur’s dismissal. In a touching moment, Shardul waited for Pant and patted him on the head before leaving the field.

BCCI’s Update on Pant’s Condition

The BCCI announced that Rishabh Pant would not perform wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match due to his injury. Dhruv Jurel has been assigned the role of wicket-keeper in his place. Despite the setback, Pant’s determination to contribute to the team’s efforts was evident as he joined his teammates on Day 2.

Injury Woes for Team India

Pant’s injury adds to India’s growing list of concerns in the series, as they trail 1-2 against England. The team is already grappling with the absence of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy due to a knee problem, while pacers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are sidelined with groin and finger injuries, respectively. A report by PTI highlighted the severity of Pant’s injury, suggesting potential damage to his metatarsal bones.

Options for Wicket-Keeping Duties

With Pant unable to keep wickets, India has limited options. While Dhruv Jurel has stepped in, there is also speculation about KL Rahul potentially taking up wicket-keeping duties, although he hasn’t performed this role since the South Africa tour in the 2023-24 season. Ishan Kishan, who recently played County matches for Nottinghamshire and was part of India A against England Lions, remains another option despite not featuring in those matches.
