Rishabh Pant, a key player for India, sustained a significant injury during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. On Day 1 of the Manchester Test, Pant suffered a fractured toe, raising concerns about his ability to continue in the series. Despite his injury, Pant demonstrated resilience by coming out to bat after Shardul Thakur’s dismissal, even though he was unable to perform his wicket-keeping duties. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Dhruv Jurel would take over as wicket-keeper for the remainder of the match. Although Pant joined the team on Day 2 and was available to bat if needed, his participation in future matches remains uncertain due to the short recovery time before the next Test.
With only four days between the fourth and fifth Tests, Pant’s chances of continuing are slim. Reports from Cricbuzz suggest that N Jagadeesan is almost certain to replace Pant for the remainder of the series. Jagadeesan, a right-handed wicket-keeper batter from Tamil Nadu, brings considerable experience with 52 first-class matches under his belt. His impressive record includes 133 catches, 14 stumpings, and 3373 first-class runs. The selectors and team management initially considered Ishan Kishan as a potential replacement; however, Kishan is reportedly unavailable due to an injury sustained during the India A Tour of England.
Ishan Kishan’s absence from consideration stems from an injury he reported to the BCCI. Although Kishan was scheduled to participate in a promotional event on Friday, it was canceled as he was reportedly traveling to London for the Test match. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding his involvement or travel plans. This development has paved the way for Jagadeesan’s inclusion in the squad ahead of the crucial fifth and final Test of the series.
