India Successfully Tests Drone-Launched Precision Missile in Andhra Pradesh

India’s Defence Capabilities Enhanced with Successful Missile Test

India has achieved a significant milestone in its defence sector with the successful test-firing of a drone-launched precision-guided missile. Conducted at the National Open Area Range (NOAR) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, the trials were carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This achievement marks a major advancement in India’s military capabilities, particularly in precision-guided munitions.

Details of the UAV Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3

The UAV Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 represents the latest in a series of innovations by DRDO. Building on previous versions, such as the ULPGM-V2 developed by the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), this variant includes advanced features like imaging infrared (IIR) seekers and dual-thrust propulsion systems. These enhancements are designed to improve accuracy and range, making the missile system more effective in various combat scenarios.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s Acknowledgment

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to social media to commend DRDO and its industry partners for their efforts. He highlighted the trials as a “major boost” to India’s missile capabilities and praised the collaboration with domestic industry partners, including DcPPs, MSMEs, and startups. Singh emphasized that this success demonstrates India’s readiness to absorb and produce critical defence technologies.

Strategic Importance of Kurnool Test Range

The choice of Kurnool’s NOAR for these trials aligns with DRDO’s strategy to utilize advanced facilities for testing cutting-edge technologies. The range has previously hosted successful trials of high-energy laser-based Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs), showcasing India’s growing high-tech testing infrastructure. These developments underscore India’s commitment to enhancing its strategic defence capabilities through innovation and technology.

Implications for India’s Defence Strategy

The successful testing of the ULPGM-V3 not only strengthens India’s military arsenal but also positions the country as a leader in drone-launched missile technology. This capability provides strategic flexibility and enhances India’s ability to respond to various threats effectively. As India continues to invest in advanced defence technologies, it reinforces its position as a formidable force in regional and global security dynamics.
