Actor Tanushree Dutta, known for spearheading India’s #MeToo movement in 2018, recently opened up about her ongoing struggles with harassment in Mumbai. In an emotional interview with NDTV, Dutta explained that a recent video showing her in tears was the result of an “emotional outburst” after enduring years of harassment. She described feeling unsafe in Mumbai, citing incidents such as unauthorized changes to her building’s security, break-ins at her home, and a maid allegedly tampering with her food. These events, she claims, began after she spoke out during the #MeToo movement.
Dutta also shared a personal connection to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, revealing that they were supposed to work on a film together. She expressed hope when an A-list actor like Rajput showed interest in collaborating with her. However, his tragic death in 2020 left her questioning the circumstances surrounding both their experiences. Dutta believes there may be a deeper link between the harassment she faces and Rajput’s untimely death.
In the interview, Dutta reiterated allegations against actor Nana Patekar, whom she accused of sexual harassment in 2018. She claimed that since questioning Patekar’s foundation, she has been targeted by individuals seeking to harm her. Dutta alleged that a contract worth Rs 5 crore was issued by the underworld to eliminate her, highlighting the ongoing presence of organized crime in new forms.
Dutta expressed frustration with law enforcement, stating that despite documenting incidents over the past five years, the police have not taken action. She voiced greater trust in media coverage than in police intervention. Her past experiences with the Mumbai Police during the #MeToo movement left her disillusioned, as no progress was made despite filing detailed reports.
As Dutta continues to speak out about her experiences, she finds herself inundated with media requests. Balancing interviews with maintaining her health has been challenging. On Instagram, she asked for patience from those seeking interviews, emphasizing her commitment to sharing her story gradually.
