For the first time in India’s history, a proactive legal assistance program is being introduced to support the families of soldiers. The NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025 aims to alleviate the domestic legal burdens faced by soldiers serving in remote and challenging environments. This landmark initiative sends a clear message: while soldiers protect the nation at its borders, their families will be cared for at home.
The scheme is set to be officially launched today at a conference in Srinagar. Justice Surya Kant, the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the incoming Chief Justice of India, will spearhead the event. The launch will also be attended by prominent figures such as Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana was conceived in response to the sacrifices made by armed forces during Operation Sindoor. Justice Surya Kant, moved by these sacrifices, sought ways for the judiciary to contribute more directly to the well-being of military personnel. He emphasized that the legal community must ensure soldiers are not left alone to manage personal legal issues.
This scheme addresses a critical issue: soldiers deployed in isolated areas often struggle to manage legal matters related to family property, domestic disputes, or land issues. For instance, a soldier stationed in Jammu and Kashmir might find it challenging to attend court proceedings in Kerala or Tamil Nadu due to limited leave or access.
Under this initiative, NALSA will ensure that such cases receive proper representation in courts nationwide. The support extends beyond soldiers to include paramilitary personnel from organizations like the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), who serve in similarly isolated and high-risk conditions.
