Ektaa Kapoor has publicly addressed the recent government ban on ALTT and 24 other OTT platforms for allegedly streaming “obscene and vulgar content.” In a statement, she clarified that neither she nor her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have any current association with ALTT. They both stepped down from their roles with the platform in June 2021. Ektaa shared this clarification on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing their disassociation from ALTT.
The statement further elaborated on the corporate structure of Balaji Telefilms Limited, which is listed on the BSE and NSE. Following a recent amalgamation approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd., previously a wholly-owned subsidiary, now operates ALTT as of June 20, 2025. This restructuring underscores that Ektaa and Shobha Kapoor are not involved in any capacity with ALTT.
Ektaa Kapoor’s statement also addressed circulating media reports about ALTT’s disabling by authorities. She strongly denied any insinuations of her involvement, urging media outlets to report accurately. Balaji Telefilms Limited maintains full compliance with applicable laws and upholds high standards of corporate governance.
The government’s decision to block 25 OTT services, including ALTT, Ullu, and Desiflix, was due to content deemed offensive and occasionally sexual. This action followed consultations with various ministries and industry associations. Notifications were issued under the Information Technology Act of 2000 and IT Rules of 2021 to ensure these platforms are inaccessible.
