Incident Overview

A distressing incident unfolded in Bihar’s Gaya district, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving ambulance. The woman, who was participating in a Home Guard recruitment drive, fainted during a physical endurance test at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya. This test was part of the standard recruitment procedure.

Alleged Assault Details

The alleged assault took place on July 24. After the woman collapsed, event organizers arranged for her immediate transport to a hospital using an ambulance stationed at the site. During this journey, the woman claims she was raped by multiple individuals inside the ambulance while she was unconscious.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following her statement, an FIR was promptly registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a forensic team were deployed to investigate the matter thoroughly. Within hours of filing the FIR, the SIT arrested two suspects: Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, the technician on board. Both men are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Officials have confirmed that CCTV footage from the area corroborates the vehicle’s route and timeline.

Victim’s Account and Legal Proceedings

According to her police complaint, the woman stated she lost consciousness during the physical test and was only partially aware of events during her transport. She later informed police and hospital authorities that three to four men inside the ambulance assaulted her.

Political Reaction

The incident has sparked political reactions, with Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan criticizing Bihar’s law-and-order situation. He questioned the effectiveness of the state police in handling such cases.
