Hoshi Takayuki, a 41-year-old former entrepreneur from Tokyo, has made headlines by leaving behind his flourishing beauty product business to pursue a spiritual journey devoted to Lord Shiva. Once the owner of a successful chain of 15 beauty stores in Japan, Takayuki has now embraced a new identity as Bala Kumbha Gurumuni. This dramatic shift in lifestyle marks his commitment to Hindu spirituality, which he discovered during a trip to Tamil Nadu two decades ago.
Takayuki’s spiritual journey began when he encountered Nadi astrology, an ancient Siddha practice that interprets life through palm-leaf manuscripts. During this reading, he learned about his supposed past life in the Himalayas and his destiny to follow Hindu spirituality. This revelation was further reinforced by a vivid dream in which he saw himself in Uttarakhand, prompting him to change the course of his life.
Embracing his newfound spiritual path, Takayuki handed over his business empire to his followers and transformed his Tokyo home into a Shiva temple. He also constructed a second shrine, solidifying his dedication to his faith. Returning to India in July, he participated in the Kanwar Yatra, walking barefoot and carrying sacred Ganga water alongside 20 Japanese followers. In Dehradun, he hosted a two-day food camp for fellow kanwariyas as part of his pilgrimage.
Takayuki’s spiritual journey is far from over. According to Ramesh Sundriyal, an Indian expatriate and friend, Takayuki has purchased 35 acres of land in Puducherry with plans to build a significant Shiva temple. Additionally, he intends to establish an ashram in Uttarakhand, further deepening his connection to the region he believes was part of his past life. His devotion and plans reflect a profound attachment to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand and its spiritual heritage.
