Indian-Origin Man Severely Injured in Machete Attack in Melbourne

Brutal Attack on Indian-Origin Man in Melbourne

An Indian-origin man, Saurabh Anand, faced a horrific attack in Melbourne, Australia, last week. The incident occurred as he was returning home from the Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows after picking up medicines from a pharmacy. Around 7:30 pm on July 19, Saurabh was on a phone call with a friend when he was suddenly surrounded by five teenagers.

Details of the Assault

The attackers began by rifling through Saurabh’s pockets. One of the teenagers punched him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The situation escalated when a third teenager brandished a machete and threatened Saurabh by holding it to his throat. In an attempt to defend himself, Saurabh raised his arm, but the machete struck him multiple times, severely injuring his wrist and hand. The brutal assault left him with a nearly severed hand, which was later reattached by medical professionals.

Injuries and Medical Response

Saurabh sustained additional injuries, including stab wounds to his shoulder and back, resulting in a fractured spine and multiple broken bones. Despite the excruciating pain and severe injuries, he managed to walk out of the area and call for help. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where doctors initially considered amputating his hand but successfully reattached it instead.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Australian media reports indicate that four out of the five teenagers involved in the attack have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Similar Incident Raises Concerns

This attack follows another violent incident involving an Indian man named Charanpreet Singh, who was allegedly assaulted and racially abused during a car parking dispute near Kintore Avenue. These incidents have raised concerns about safety and racial tensions within the community.
