Secretary of State Marco Rubio has addressed recent speculation regarding his potential candidacy for the Republican Party’s 2028 presidential nomination. In a recent interview with Lara Trump on the Fox News Channel, Rubio made it clear that he is not considering a run for the presidency. Instead, he expressed strong support for Vice President JD Vance as a potential nominee. Rubio stated, “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” highlighting his confidence in Vance’s capabilities.
During the interview, Rubio described JD Vance as one of his “closest friends in politics,” underscoring the strong professional and personal relationship they share. This friendship has been pivotal in shaping Rubio’s endorsement of Vance as a future leader of the Republican Party. Rubio’s comments reflect his belief in Vance’s leadership qualities and potential to guide the party in future elections.
Rubio also took the opportunity to reflect on his current role as Secretary of State under President Donald Trump. He expressed satisfaction with his position and emphasized his dedication to serving in this capacity for as long as President Trump allows. Appointed shortly after Trump’s victory over then–Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Rubio has been an integral part of the administration, contributing significantly to its foreign policy achievements.
Reflecting on his political career, Rubio shared his sense of fulfillment with his current role. He mentioned that if he continues to serve effectively throughout Trump’s presidency, he would consider it a significant achievement in his public service career. “I believe that if I am able to be here, through the duration of this presidency, and we get things done at the pace that we’ve been doing the last six months, I’ll be able to look back at my time in public service and say I made a difference,” Rubio stated.
