In a significant development, security forces have neutralized a terrorist during an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The operation, named “Operation Akhal,” was initiated following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the forest area of Akhal. The operation commenced on Friday and quickly escalated into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the security personnel.
According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, intermittent and intense firefights continued throughout the night. The alert troops responded with calibrated fire, maintaining contact while tightening their hold on the situation. As of this morning, one terrorist has been neutralized, and the operation is still underway.
This encounter follows closely on the heels of another significant operation where three terrorists involved in the deadly Pahalgam attack were killed by security forces near Srinagar. Under ‘Operation Mahadev,’ Sulieman alias Asif, the alleged mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack, was gunned down along with his associates Jibran and Hamza Afghani. These operations are part of a broader strategy to dismantle terror infrastructure in the region.
The Pahalgam attack on April 22 resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, mostly tourists. This prompted a series of operations, including ‘Operation Sindoor,’ launched on May 7 against terror networks in Pakistan. Additionally, two more terrorists were intercepted and killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch after infiltrating from Pakistan.
The ongoing efforts by security forces highlight their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region by actively countering terrorist threats.
