Man in ‘MAGA’ Hat Escorted from MLS Game by Security

Incident at MLS Game Involving Political Attire

A recent Major League Soccer match at Energizer Park, home to St. Louis City SC, became the center of attention when a man named Michael Weitzel was escorted out by security. The incident, captured on video and shared on social media, shows Weitzel wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, which he claims led to his removal from the stadium. In the video, Weitzel states, “I am Michael Weitzel and I have been asked to leave because of the Donald Trump hat,” during a conversation with security personnel and law enforcement officers.

Stadium’s Policy on Political Messaging

The security team at Energizer Park explained their stance on political messaging, stating that the venue is “non-political” and does not permit any political displays. Weitzel pointed out a section of fans holding flags, suggesting these were political in nature. However, security clarified that those items were pre-approved. The stadium’s rules explicitly prohibit political banners but do not mention hats specifically.

Questions of Policy Enforcement

Weitzel questioned whether the stadium’s policies were being applied consistently. Security personnel assured him that rules were enforced equally. Despite this assurance, Weitzel expressed feeling “threatened with arrest” and sought confirmation about being “evicted from the premises.” As he moved towards the concourse area, he remarked, “Trump is not welcome in St. Louis City SC Club.”

Resolution Attempt and Outcome

A security staff member suggested that Weitzel could return to his seat if he removed his hat. When Weitzel complied by taking off his hat, someone off-camera informed him that it was too late to return. He then put the hat back on and commented that the security worker was simply following rules.

Lack of Official Response

St. Louis City SC did not issue any public statements regarding the incident as of Saturday. The team was positioned at No. 14 in the MLS Western Conference standings ahead of their Sunday match. Fox News Digital reached out to St. Louis City SC for further comments on the situation.
