A police case has been filed against BJP MP K Sudhakar and two others following the suicide of a 30-year-old driver, M Babu, in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur. Babu, who had been working as a contract driver for the chief accounts officer in the zilla panchayat for over six years, left behind a note implicating Sudhakar and others in his decision to take his own life.
The first information report (FIR) names Mr Sudhakar, Nagesh, and Manjunath as accused, charging them with financial fraud, abetment to suicide, and atrocity under the BNS and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. In his note, Babu accused Sudhakar and Nagesh of cheating him out of Rs 25 lakh by promising him a government job. He also alleged that a zilla parishad accounts assistant pressured him into suicide.
Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey reported that Babu’s body was found hanging from a tree at the Chikkaballapura DC office premises. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine whether the MP was directly involved or if his name was misused. The police are examining all angles to uncover the truth behind these serious allegations.
In response to the accusations, Mr Sudhakar expressed his sorrow over Babu’s death but denied any involvement. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, he stated that he had never met Babu and was unaware of the other individuals named in the note. Sudhakar emphasized his history of helping young people secure employment and expressed confusion over why his name was mentioned.
The incident highlights the importance of mental health support. Organizations like the Vandrevala Foundation for Mental Health and TISS iCall offer helplines for those in need. It’s crucial for individuals facing similar challenges to seek help from mental health specialists.
