First Lady Melania Trump is set to continue the tradition of White House tours, even as construction begins on a new State Ballroom. The tours were temporarily paused, not canceled, as confirmed by Nicholas Clemens, communications director for the first lady. This pause allows a collaborative team from the White House, U.S. Secret Service, National Park Service, and Executive Residence staff to strategize on maintaining public access during the construction phase.
The new State Ballroom is designed to host official events, state dinners, and large ceremonial gatherings. This 90,000-square-foot addition will accommodate approximately 650 seated guests and will adhere to the classical design of the White House. The ballroom aims to enhance the functionality of the White House while preserving its historical aesthetic.
Clemens emphasized that the president and first lady are dedicated to ensuring public access to the White House both now and in the future. The tour route has evolved over different presidencies, and updates regarding the new State Ballroom are anticipated soon. The construction is scheduled to commence in September and is expected to be completed well before the end of President Trump’s term.
Previously, guests entered through the East Wing, proceeding down the East Colonnade. The tour included visits to historically significant rooms such as the Vermeil Room, Library, China Room, Blue Room, Red Room, Green Room, and the State Dining Room. These tours offer a glimpse into the rich history and cultural significance of the White House.
