In a dramatic turn of events, Rani Kapur, the mother of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur, has made serious allegations against certain individuals within the Sona Group. Just hours before the annual general meeting (AGM) of Sona Comstar, a company under the Sona Group umbrella, Ms. Kapur issued an emotional letter to the board. She claimed she was “compelled to sign various documents without explanation” while still mourning her son’s death in England this past June.
Ms. Kapur, who identifies as the majority shareholder of the Sona Group, expressed her concerns over the board’s decision to appoint individuals she claims are misrepresenting themselves as the largest shareholders. Sources suggest that her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, is among those implicated. Ms. Kapur insists that these claims are based on documents she was forced to sign under duress.
In her letter, Ms. Kapur demanded a two-week postponement of the AGM scheduled for 1 pm. She detailed how she was coerced into signing documents behind closed doors and has been denied access to her accounts. This situation has left her dependent on a select few for survival, exacerbating her distress following her son’s passing.
Ms. Kapur accused certain parties of attempting to seize control of her family’s legacy during her period of mourning. She highlighted an agenda item at the AGM concerning a resolution to appoint directors as representatives of the Kapur family—a decision made without her consultation or consent.
The letter further reveals that Ms. Kapur has received information from well-wishers about “gross illegalities” within the company, leaving her deeply disturbed. She emphasized that no decisions should be made without her explicit consent.
As of now, the Sona Comstar board has not responded to these allegations. Sunjay Kapur was a notable figure in the automotive industry and was previously married to Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor before marrying model Priya Sachdev in 2017.
