The temple witnessed a massive influx of devotees on Guru Purnima, with thousands visiting to pay their respects and participate in the celebrations. The significant turnout resulted in long queues, with some devotees waiting for nearly five hours to enter the temple premises. This annual event has been celebrated at the Sai Baba temple since 1908 and continues to attract large crowds from across India and abroad.
Goraksh Gadilkar, CEO of Sai Trust Shirdi, expressed his gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its symbolic importance. “This is not just a valuable donation in monetary terms, but also a symbol of deep devotion and reverence,” he stated. The gold crown and silver necklace are seen as more than just precious metals; they represent the heartfelt devotion and gratitude of the anonymous donor.
The Sai Baba temple in Shirdi is renowned for attracting devotees from around the world. According to Gadilkar, visitors from 61 countries have come to offer prayers at the temple. Currently, devotees from Germany, Colombia, and Sri Lanka are among those visiting. This global participation highlights the universal appeal of Guru Purnima and its significance across various cultures.
Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, holds profound cultural significance across Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain communities in India and beyond. It commemorates the birth of Maharishi Ved Vyasa, revered as the compiler of the Vedas and author of the Mahabharata. His spiritual legacy as the Adi Guru (original teacher) continues to influence these traditions deeply.
