The Arkansas Department of Public Safety has announced the arrest of James Andrew McGann, a 28-year-old resident of Springdale, in connection with the tragic double homicide at Devil’s Den State Park. The arrest was made on Wednesday following an intensive investigation by Special Agents from the Arkansas State Police (ASP). McGann is accused of murdering Clinton Brink, 43, and Cristen Brink, 41, while they were hiking with their two young daughters.
The shocking incident occurred on a Saturday when the Brink family was enjoying a hike at the state park. The couple was brutally attacked and killed in front of their daughters, aged 7 and 9. Following the attack, the children were placed in the care of family members. The police had initially released a composite sketch of the suspect, noting that he likely sustained injuries during the attack.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement shortly after McGann’s arrest was confirmed. She expressed her condolences to the Brink family and praised the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in capturing the suspect. Governor Sanders emphasized that violent crime will not be tolerated in Arkansas and commended the dedication of the Arkansas State Police, Park Rangers, local law enforcement, and others who contributed to the investigation.
The FBI also played a crucial role in assisting with the investigation. As authorities continue to gather evidence and build their case against McGann, community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any additional information that may aid in the prosecution. The arrest brings a sense of relief to many but also highlights the need for continued support for the victims’ family during this difficult time.
