Two Arrested in Cincinnati Mob Attack; Suspect Previously Released on Bail

Arrests Made in Cincinnati Mob Attack

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge announced during a public safety meeting that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with a violent downtown assault that left two people seriously injured. The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Montianez Merriweather and 24-year-old Dekyra Vernon, were taken into custody following the incident that occurred over the weekend. However, the specific charges against them have not been disclosed, and Hamilton County jail records do not list the charges they face.

Additional Warrants Issued

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that three additional warrants have been issued for further arrests related to this case. The attack, which took place early Saturday morning at the intersection of Fourth Street and Elm Street, has sparked national attention after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media. The footage shows a mob viciously assaulting two individuals, including a woman who was knocked unconscious while bystanders recorded the event instead of intervening.

Community Response and Previous Incidents

The Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Queen City Lodge #69 expressed gratitude to the police department for their swift action in arresting the suspects involved in what they described as a “heinous attack.” The FOP also highlighted a previous incident involving Merriweather, who was indicted on July 10, 2025, for charges including receiving stolen property and improper transportation of a firearm. Despite these serious charges, Merriweather was released on a $4,000 bond, requiring only a $400 payment for his release.

Public Outcry and City Leadership Criticism

The attack has prompted criticism from local business owners and political figures. A Cincinnati mayoral candidate and VP Vance’s half-brother publicly criticized city leadership following the brutal incident. The attack occurred outside a popular nightclub called LoVe and an adjacent late-night restaurant, raising concerns about public safety in the downtown area.
