Arrests Made During Anti-Israel Protest at NYC Offices of Schumer and Gillibrand

Protest Leads to Arrests at NYC Senators’ Offices

In a significant demonstration, anti-Israel protesters were arrested after entering the lobby of the New York City offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The New York Police Department confirmed the arrests during what they described as an “unscheduled demonstration” at 780 Third Avenue, where both senators have their offices. The protesters, dressed in black and yellow, displayed signs with slogans directly addressing the senators, urging them to “stop starving Gaza.” They also chanted “Free, free Palestine, stop the genocide,” expressing their opposition to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

High-Profile Participation and Arrests

Among those participating in the protest was actor Sara Ramirez, known for roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “And Just Like That,” as reported by Reuters. Despite the arrests, the exact number of individuals detained remains undisclosed by the NYPD at this time. This protest highlights growing tensions and public outcry over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Senator Schumer’s Call for Humanitarian Aid

Earlier in the week, Senator Schumer issued a statement condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advocating for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He emphasized the unacceptable levels of hunger and suffering depicted in reports from Gaza, calling for urgent action to address these issues. Schumer urged collaboration between the Trump administration, the Israeli government, and humanitarian partners to increase aid delivery to Palestinians.

Trump Administration’s Response to Gaza Crisis

On Friday, President Donald Trump discussed plans with Axios to address food shortages in Gaza. He expressed concern about starvation but attributed blame to Hamas for the dire conditions. Trump praised Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s efforts but noted he had not yet received a briefing from him.

Humanitarian Efforts by U.S. Officials

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff visited aid distribution sites managed by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Huckabee highlighted GHF’s success in delivering over 100 million meals within two months despite challenges posed by Hamas. He criticized Hamas for allegedly stealing aid and selling it on the black market at exorbitant prices. Witkoff emphasized their visit aimed to provide Trump with a clear understanding of Gaza’s humanitarian needs.
