Ashley Williams, a former White House aide, has become the latest ex-official from President Joe Biden’s administration to be questioned by the House Oversight Committee. The committee, led by Chair James Comer, R-Ky., is investigating claims that top aides in Biden’s administration may have concealed signs of his mental and physical decline. Additionally, they are probing whether executive actions were authorized using an autopen without Biden’s full awareness. Williams, a long-time ally of Biden, has a history of working closely with him, dating back to her role assisting then-second lady Jill Biden during the Obama administration.
Williams played a significant role in Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and transition team. She served as his trip director before being appointed as deputy director of Oval Office Operations and a special assistant to the president at the White House. Her tenure concluded with her holding positions such as deputy assistant to the president, senior advisor, and director of Strategic Outreach. According to her LinkedIn profile, she continues to work as a senior advisor in the Office of Former President Joe Biden.
The investigation by the House Oversight Committee has been met with resistance from Biden’s allies, who dispute the allegations. Williams was previously subpoenaed by the committee last year as part of their inquiry into Biden’s cognitive health. However, GOP investigators claim that the White House obstructed their efforts by preventing aides from participating in depositions or interviews. Despite this, Williams voluntarily appeared for a closed-door transcribed interview on Friday without being compelled by a subpoena.
Williams holds an impressive academic background, having graduated from Georgetown University and earned a doctorate in Law from the University of Pennsylvania. She also obtained a Master’s degree in political management from George Washington University. Her continued involvement with Biden as a senior advisor reflects her enduring commitment to his leadership.
