As Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj prepares for a potential Test debut, he has received significant praise from former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Injuries to Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh have opened the door for Kamboj to join the Indian squad for the fourth Test in Manchester. While some believe Prasidh Krishna should be selected over Kamboj for this crucial match, Ashwin has highlighted Kamboj’s potential by comparing him to Indian cricket legends like Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah.
Ashwin emphasized that the current England team cannot match India’s skills, especially with bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack. He believes that adding Anshul Kamboj to the mix would create a formidable bowling lineup. Despite not having played a Test match yet, Kamboj has been in excellent form in first-class cricket and has experience from the A tour. Ashwin noted that Kamboj is accustomed to bowling long spells, a crucial skill needed in English conditions.
Having played alongside Kamboj during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ashwin had the opportunity to observe his abilities closely. He praised Kamboj’s rare ability to understand and execute plans effectively, a trait not commonly found among fast bowlers. According to Ashwin, many bowlers with extensive Test experience fail to grasp or execute plans as well as Kamboj does.
Ashwin compared Kamboj’s understanding and execution of plans to that of Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah. While he clarified that he was not comparing their skills directly, he emphasized that Kamboj shares the ability to execute strategies effectively on the field. This quality sets him apart and makes him a valuable asset for the Indian team.
