Bangladeshi Teen Rescued After Alleged Abuse by 200 Men in Palghar

Rescue Operation Uncovers Disturbing Abuse

A 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl was rescued from a sex trafficking operation in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The minor reported to authorities that she was sexually abused by at least 200 men over a three-month period. This claim is currently under investigation by the police. The rescue was conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Police, in collaboration with NGOs Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation, following a raid on a flat in Naigaon, Vasai on July 26.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Ten individuals have been arrested in connection with this case, including six Bangladeshi nationals. Among those detained are two women, aged 33 and 32, accused of facilitating the girl’s illegal entry into India. Senior Inspector Vijay Kadam of Naigaon police station confirmed these arrests. The girl was initially trafficked to Nadiad, Gujarat, where she endured further abuse.

Background and Trafficking Details

Harmony Foundation president Abraham Mathai revealed that the girl had fled her home after failing a school subject. She was then coerced into crossing into India illegally by an acquaintance who forced her into prostitution. Mathai emphasized the need to apprehend all 200 men involved in her abuse.

Health Concerns and Human Rights Violations

Police suspect that the girl may have been administered hormonal injections to induce early puberty. Human rights activist Madhu Shankar highlighted similar cases where victims were kidnapped as infants and later forced into prostitution after being given such injections.

Efforts to Dismantle the Trafficking Network

MBVV police commissioner Niket Kaushik assured that efforts are underway to dismantle the trafficking network and ensure safety for vulnerable teenagers. The police are verifying the girl’s allegations and have dispatched teams nationwide to capture others involved.

Legal Actions Taken

A case was registered on July 27 under various legal provisions including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Foreigners Act, and Passport Act. The main accused, Mohammad Khalid Abdul Bapari (33), along with agents Juber Harun Sheikh (38) and Shamim Gafar Sardar (39), were identified as key figures in orchestrating the trafficking operations.
