BCCI Threatens Boycott Over Asia Cup Venue Dispute with PCB Chief Naqvi

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a stern warning to boycott any resolutions at the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) if it proceeds in Dhaka. This decision stems from the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Asia Cup, a six-team T20 tournament, for which India is the designated host. Despite being slated for September, the ACC has yet to finalize the schedule or venue, leaving the tournament’s future in limbo.
Scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, the AGM has become a point of contention due to India’s refusal to travel to Bangladesh amid current circumstances. The BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have already postponed India’s tour of Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026. The ACC, led by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi, faces criticism from India for allegedly exerting undue pressure regarding the meeting location.
A source within the BCCI revealed that India has requested a change of venue from Dhaka, but no response has been received from Naqvi. The source emphasized that the Asia Cup could proceed only if the meeting venue is relocated. The BCCI is prepared to boycott any resolutions if Naqvi insists on holding the meeting in Dhaka.
India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan for previous tournaments adds context to the current situation. In 2023, India opted not to participate in Pakistan-hosted Asia Cup matches, leading to Sri Lanka serving as a neutral venue. Similarly, during the Champions Trophy earlier this year, India played its matches in Dubai instead of crossing into Pakistan.
Recent reports suggested India’s withdrawal from both the Men’s Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup due to tensions with Pakistan. However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia denied these claims, labeling them as speculative and unfounded. Saikia clarified that no official discussions or decisions have been made regarding India’s participation in ACC events.
