Bihar Deputy CM Accused of Holding Dual Voter IDs, Sparks Political Row

Tejashwi Yadav’s Allegations Against Deputy CM

In a significant political development in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has accused Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha of possessing two voter IDs. According to Yadav, Sinha holds two Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) with different details. One card is registered in the Bankipur Assembly segment, listing Sinha’s age as 60, while the other is in the Lakhisarai segment, showing his age as 57. Yadav claims this discrepancy indicates either fraudulent activity by Sinha or flaws in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list.

Sinha’s Response to the Allegations

Deputy Chief Minister Sinha has refuted these allegations, stating that he had already initiated the process to remove his name from one constituency. He explained that his family previously resided in the Bankipur area and that he had applied for his name to be added to the Lakhisarai voter list. Sinha accused Yadav of making baseless claims and emphasized that he had followed due procedure.

Political Implications and Election Commission’s Role

The accusations come amid a contentious revision of Bihar’s voter lists ahead of the Assembly elections. The opposition parties, including RJD and Congress, have criticized the revision process, alleging it could lead to mass voter deletions. The Election Commission has dismissed these claims but has sought an explanation from Yadav regarding his own EPIC card issues.

Call for Investigation and Political Tensions

Yadav has demanded an investigation into Sinha’s alleged dual voter IDs, suggesting that either the Election Commission’s revision process is flawed or Sinha is involved in fraudulent activities. He has also questioned whether action will be taken against Sinha if allegations against him are pursued.

Broader Political Context

This controversy highlights ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP and opposition parties in Bihar. Yadav has accused the BJP of undermining democracy and using the Election Commission for political gains. He also raised concerns about media bias and questioned the legitimacy of voters added between 2003 and 2025.
