The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has made public bodycam footage and 911 calls related to Shane Tamura, the alleged Manhattan mass shooter. The materials, released under “extraordinary circumstances,” provide insight into Tamura’s interactions with law enforcement prior to the tragic events at 345 Park Avenue. The footage includes a September 2023 incident at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa, where Tamura was arrested after refusing to leave and failing to provide identification following a gambling win.
In the bodycam video, Tamura is seen questioning officers about his arrest while sitting handcuffed in a security room. Despite officers explaining the situation multiple times, Tamura delayed providing his name, leading to visible frustration among the police. Eventually, outside the casino, officers removed his handcuffs and instructed him to leave. However, Tamura insisted that the casino owed him $6,000, resulting in his arrest and transport in a police vehicle.
Tamura, who worked in security at Horseshoe Las Vegas, had a documented history of mental health issues. In August 2024, first responders conducted a health evaluation after his mother reported him as suicidal. This led to an L2K admission to a psychiatric facility. Additionally, in May 2023, Tamura was stopped by police for driving without a rear license plate, resulting in the confiscation of his vehicle due to an expired registration and canceled license.
The mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue involved an AR-style rifle that Tamura reportedly acquired from a supervisor. The attack resulted in the deaths of an NYPD officer, a security guard, and two executives before Tamura turned the weapon on himself. These events have raised questions about gun access and mental health support.
