Bollywood is gearing up for a high-stakes month in July, with an estimated Rs 550 crore invested in a diverse array of theatrical releases. The lineup includes eight Hindi films, ranging from star-studded dramas to mid-budget productions. Among the highly anticipated releases are “Metro In Dino,” “Maalik,” and “Son of Sardaar 2,” alongside titles like “Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan,” “Tanvi The Great,” “Saiyaara,” “Param Sundari,” and “Nikita Roy and the Book of Darkness.” These films collectively represent a significant portion of the industry’s financial commitments this month. The most notable box office showdown is scheduled for July 25, when “Son of Sardaar 2,” with a reported budget of Rs 150 crore, competes against “Param Sundari,” which has a budget of Rs 60 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh emphasizes the importance of July for Bollywood, noting the continuous stream of releases and the competition with major Hollywood films like “F1” and “Jurassic Park.” He believes that several films have the potential to positively impact the industry, especially after a mixed first half of 2025. “Metro In Dino,” released on July 4, has earned over Rs 20 crore in its first five days, though it hasn’t met expectations overall. The film, directed by Anurag Basu, is a spiritual successor to his 2007 hit “Life In A Metro” and was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. On July 11, two mid-budget films, “Maalik” and “Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan,” both with budgets of Rs 50 crore, are set to premiere. Taran Adarsh expresses hope for their success, given their diverse genres and significant financial backing. The following week sees three more releases: “Saiyaara” (Rs 60 crore), “Tanvi The Great” (Rs 30 crore), and “Nikita Roy and the Book of Darkness” (Rs 50 crore). Film business analyst Girish Wankhede highlights the packed schedule, which also includes international titles like “Superman” and other films such as “Murderbaad” and “Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti.” Despite the crowded release calendar, Jaipur-based exhibitor Abhimanyu Bansal notes that screen allocation is being managed effectively. He points out that while big and small films are getting adequate screen time, smaller films might have benefited from releasing in less competitive months. If July’s releases perform well at the box office, it could boost investor confidence and pave the way for a more successful second half of 2025 for Bollywood.
