The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a significant policy change, mandating a minimum of 75% attendance for students in Classes 10 and 12 to be eligible for the 2026 board examinations. This rule will come into effect from the academic session of 2025–26. The decision aims to enhance academic discipline and reduce the prevalence of dummy candidates in affiliated schools.
To ensure compliance, CBSE plans to conduct surprise inspections and implement strict measures against any manipulation of attendance records. Schools found guilty of falsifying attendance data may face severe penalties. This initiative reflects CBSE’s commitment to maintaining integrity and fairness in the examination process.
While the board acknowledges that certain circumstances may warrant exemptions, these will be granted sparingly and under strict scrutiny. The zero-tolerance policy towards manipulated records is intended to deter schools from engaging in unethical practices. By enforcing this rule, CBSE hopes to foster a more disciplined academic environment across its network of schools.
This new attendance requirement places additional responsibility on students to maintain regular attendance throughout the academic year. Schools will need to ensure accurate record-keeping and may need to implement systems to monitor student attendance more effectively. The policy underscores the importance of consistent classroom engagement as a cornerstone of educational success.
