Chhangur Baba’s Rs 106 Crore Conversion Network Uncovered

Jamaluddin, also known as Chhangur Baba, has been identified as the mastermind behind a religious conversion network, amassing Rs 106 crore across 40 bank accounts. Originally a seller of rings and amulets, Chhangur Baba’s financial empire is now under scrutiny, with funds reportedly sourced from Middle Eastern countries. His arrest, alongside associate Neetu alias Nasreen in Lucknow, has intensified investigations into the conversion racket exposed in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district.

Authorities allege that vulnerable groups, including impoverished laborers and widowed women, were coerced into conversion through promises of financial aid or marriage. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Task Force (STF) are probing potential terror links, while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigates the origins and purposes of the substantial funds.

Chhangur Baba’s influence extends beyond his financial dealings. He once served as a village head in Rehra Mafi and constructed a controversial building near a shrine in Madhpur. This structure was recently demolished by authorities for being illegally built on government land. Despite claims of plans for a hospital or educational institution, the building’s purpose remains unclear.

Further investigations reveal Chhangur Baba’s acquisition of properties in various locations, including a Rs 16.49 crore land purchase in Lonavala, Maharashtra. The transaction involved Mohammad Ahmed Khan, who is also under investigation for financial links to Chhangur Baba.

The probe extends to government officials suspected of facilitating Chhangur Baba’s activities. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that Jamaluddin’s actions threaten societal and national security, promising stringent legal measures against those involved.
