Chhangur Baba, also known as Jamaluddin, allegedly orchestrated a religious conversion scheme using specific code words to conceal his activities. The terms “project,” “mitti palatna,” “kajal lagana,” and “darshan” were integral to his operations. “Project” referred to women, while “mitti palatna” indicated religious conversion. “Kajal lagana” was used to describe manipulation, and “darshan” involved introducing victims to Chhangur Baba. These revelations came from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) amid an ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED has uncovered significant financial transactions linked to Chhangur Baba, with 18 bank accounts showing transactions worth Rs 68 crore. Within three months, approximately Rs 7 crore was deposited into these accounts, raising suspicions of global funding. The funds reportedly originated from Islamic countries in the Middle East, as per the investigation.
On July 5, Chhangur Baba and his aide Neetu alias Nasreen were arrested in Balrampur district, near the Nepal border. A non-bailable warrant was issued for Jalaluddin, with a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his capture. The STF detailed how Chhangur Baba’s network lured individuals with promises of financial incentives, foreign travel, jobs, and scholarships to convert their religion.
A 16-year-old girl from Faridabad alleged she was manipulated by Aamir Hussain, who introduced her to Chhangur Baba at Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi. She claimed she was coerced into offering namaz and was pressured to marry Hussain after converting to Islam. Another victim, Sanjeet Kumar, reported being threatened after refusing conversion despite financial offers.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the national security implications of these activities. The investigation continues as authorities seek further details on Chhangur Baba’s financial dealings and potential international connections.
