Business owners in downtown Cincinnati are expressing their frustration and concern following a violent incident that has gained national attention. The assault, which occurred early Saturday morning at the intersection of Fourth Street and Elm Street, was captured on video and widely shared on social media. The footage shows a group of individuals brutally attacking two people, including a woman who was knocked unconscious while bystanders recorded the event instead of intervening. Local Business Owners Speak Out

Kris Koch, owner of Koch Sporting Goods located across from the nightclub LoVe where the incident took place, described the attack as “extremely out-of-control” and labeled it a “hate crime.” Koch’s family business has been a staple in the area since 1888, and he expressed concerns about the recurring issue of large crowds spilling into the streets from nearby bars. Despite police efforts, controlling these crowds remains a challenge. Koch emphasized that while most people downtown are not looking for trouble, incidents like this cast a negative light on the city.

Community Response and Safety Concerns

Justin Karp, owner of Main Auction Galleries next to Koch’s store, also condemned the violence, calling it a “poor reflection” on Cincinnati. He highlighted the contrast between the city’s vibrant events, such as the ongoing Jazz Fest, and the negative attention brought by such incidents. The Downtown Residents Council is set to hold a special meeting to address public safety concerns, underscoring the community’s commitment to finding solutions.

Police Investigation and Public Reaction

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge addressed the media, expressing disappointment that out of approximately 100 witnesses, only one person called 911 during the attack. She stressed the importance of community involvement in ensuring public safety. Authorities have charged at least five suspects in connection with the assault, though details about their identities and charges remain undisclosed.
