In a gripping testimony during the murder trial of Colorado dentist Dr. James Toliver Craig, Dr. Karin Cain, a Texas orthodontist, revealed the intense nature of their relationship. Cain, who met Craig at a dental conference in Las Vegas in February 2023, shared that they exchanged over 4,000 text messages in just 18 days. Craig is accused of murdering his wife, Angela Craig, by poisoning her protein shakes with lethal doses of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.
Cain recounted meeting Craig shortly after finalizing her divorce. She described their initial interaction as honest and vulnerable, leading to an emotional affair. Despite Cain’s insistence on maintaining boundaries, the relationship quickly became intimate, though she clarified there was no sexual activity at the time.
The text exchanges between Cain and Craig were filled with declarations of love and spiritual messages. Craig expressed deep affection for Cain just days into their relationship, while Cain admitted to feeling uplifted by his words. The texts also included instances of “sexting,” highlighting the intensity of their connection.
As the trial unfolded, Cain testified about Craig’s claims regarding his wife’s mental health and their supposed separation. However, she later realized many of Craig’s statements were untrue. The revelation that Angela suspected being drugged added tension to their relationship.
Cain’s testimony provided insight into her emotional turmoil upon learning about Angela’s death and Craig’s subsequent arrest. Despite receiving love letters from Craig while he was in jail, Cain ultimately decided to cut ties with him.
The prosecution emphasized Craig’s deceitful behavior, including his ongoing marriage and involvement with other women. Cain acknowledged that much of what Craig told her was false, reflecting on the infatuation she felt during their brief relationship.
